Home Sweat Home

Yes. I know it's supposed to be Home SWEET Home. Not a typo. And it is sweet! But there's also been a lot of sweat involved over here. If you've ever been house hunting and experienced a move (or two or six), you know what I'm talking about.

This has been a truly amazing experience so far. We began hunting for a home to launch Lion's Gate Ministries in 2017. After some trial and error, we narrowed our search to 5 acres with the hopes of finding something with public sewer and public water. We searched far and wide (within an hour of our current home) and that left us ... nothing.

For years, we've admired this property, seated right smack dab in the middle of our neighborhood. With a Foundation willing to purchase a home for the use of LGM, we decided to take a chance and drop a note in the homeowner's mailbox in 2018. Our friend, Jim, wrote the first note. And then, a week later, Rob wrote one. And we prayed and prayed.

Two weeks later, the owner called Rob and offered to let us come and look at the house. Wow! It was exactly what we'd been looking for and so much better than anything we'd found so far! And she decided it was time to sell! whoop! whoop!

The process of buying a home can be tedious. And there was at least one point along the way that we thought it wouldn't go through. So we put on our sneakers and took a Jericho Walk (Joshua 6, minus the horns, shouting, swords or other mayhem). Over 2 1/2 hours on a Sunday afternoon, three of us walked seven times around the block, praying over the property and praying all of Psalm 24, specifically:

"Open up, ancient gates!
Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter.
Who is the King of glory?
The Lord, strong and mighty; the Lord, invincible in battle.
Open up, ancient gates!
Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter.
Who is the King of glory?
The Lord of Heaven's Armies - he is the King of glory."

We prayed for the homeowner, we prayed over the house and property, we prayed for every neighbor in the area, we prayed ... for everything! It was a powerful experience, great exercise and we did get to meet some nice neighbors along the way. And there was some sweat. Just sayin'.

Time passed; prayers were answered; dotted lines got signed.

December 1 was moving in day! And there was definitely some sweat going on as we moved not just our home, but Mama's life belongings and Sue's apartment and attic full of goodies as well! Family and friends stepped up to help us carry the goods, but it was a CRAZY mess! Really, those couple of months before, during and after the move, I was a real life zombie. This is the part of the story I edit because just thinking about it stresses me out. So let's just say it was "challenging".

We've since been able to remove some old carpets, refinish some floors, strip wallpaper, paint ... well, we haven't, but friends who actually know what they're doing have. We've updated some outlets, plumbing ... And, yes, there is MUCH more still to do. But little by little, the beauty of this home is coming to life!!

Spring is here and I CAN'T WAIT to get outside and begin working around the property! First, some major spring cleanup, a bit of deer fencing, a greenhouse rehab... I know it will take me a lifetime to create the dreams I have for out there, but I'm very excited to begin!

We've hosted some Open House tours, a neighbors' Winter Dessert Social, we've launched The Feast potluck+bible study ... and we're eager for YOU to come and visit. Be sure to check out the Calendar and check back frequently to see when you might join us! Because these "ancient" gates and doors are wide open!
